As humans, we often try to find our identity in work or our value in what we produce. We think the solution to finding ourselves is to try harder, work more. When Jesus invites us to find our identity in Matthew 16, he invites us to the opposite—to lose all the striving and simply look to our Maker in order to find our true identity, once and for all.
