Hosting a Trunk? Here are some frequently asked questions

  • 1. What time do I need to be there?

All vehicles being decorated for Trunk or Treat must be parked by 5 p.m. Arriving between 4–4:45pm is highly encouraged! Cars must all be parked & decorated before we can allow children in that area of the parking lot.

  • 2. Where do I need to park my vehicle?

Park in the F Parking Lot (near the Care Center). The church address is 67 E Algonquin Road, South Barrington, 60010.

  • 3. What does it mean to “host” a trunk?

Hosting a trunk is a really fun experience and involves picking a theme and decorating your trunk accordingly—the possibilities are endless. If you’ve never seen a trunk or treat before, Pinterest and Google have lots of great examples.

After your trunk is decorated, you will “host” it by handing out a treat to children who “trunk or treat” throughout the parking lot. It is similar to trick or treating, but is going from car trunk to trunk instead of house to house.

  • 4. Do I need to provide the candy or giveaway?

We anticipate a large volume of participants (over 1500 kids) so we will provide the treat for you to give away. If you have something you would like to provide as a giveaway or ideas about a giveaway that matches your car theme, please let Leslie Shogren know at [email protected].

  • 5. Are there any restrictions on how I decorate my car?

We are asking that all decorations be appropriate for children 4–10 years of age (think PG or less). Please no violent or gore-themed decorations.

  • 6. How long will I have to decorate my vehicle?

Cars will have from 5–5:45 pm to decorate. We will be opening the parking lot to the public at 6 p.m.

  • 7. Do I need to wear a costume?

Costumes are not required, but they’re super fun! Extra points if you wear a costume that coordinates with your trunk theme.

  • 8. Can I host a trunk with a friend?

Definitely! Hosting a trunk with your friends, extended family or a small group is really fun. If you have more than one car trunk that you’re decorating as part of your theme, please plan to arrive together at the same time so you can park side by side.

  • 9. When does the event end?

The event ends at 8:30 p.m. and we will open the parking lot for cars to leave at that time. For safety reasons, cars participating in the Trunk or Treat event will not be permitted to exit the parking lot BEFORE 8:30 p.m.
