NEW SERIES–BEGINNING SUNDAY, MAY 5: ONE BIG HAPPY
Nuclear family. Blended family. Non-traditional family. Friends who are family. Church family.
Family comes in many forms, and not one of them is without its foibles. As human beings, we each have our own histories and hurts, needs and neuroses, so all of our relationships—even our closest ones (especially our closest ones)—have the capacity to fight, frighten, and fail us.
But at their best, those relationships can also comfort our pain, carry our burdens, and coax the very best out of us. Families of all kinds can remind all of us that none of us are alone, and can even give us glimpses of our great God.
But how can we do family better? How do we parent better? How do we honor our parents better? How do we listen, forgive, and heal better? How can we better understand the forces that shape and shatter our relationships? How do we move past the complicated histories of our families to build better legacies?
For the next several weeks we’re going to dive headlong into some of the most difficult challenges facing our families and relationships, holding them up to the wisdom of the bible in order to find new ways to navigate our most up to date issues.
Along the way we’re going to ask you to weigh in with your questions and concerns. We’re going to honor moms and dads. And we’re going to have some fun!
