Elder Selection Update: 2022 Candidate Affirmation

Willow Creek | May 3, 2021

In January 2021, we opened our Elder Selection Process to seek out qualified individuals to join the Elder Board in 2022. In the past, we have sought elders for just a single year; however, in 2020, the Elder Board decided that in light of what is required of elders once they join the board, it would be wise for each elder to go through a training and development period prior to their term.

After a thorough vetting process, two candidates were selected to move forward and be approved to proceed to the congregation affirmation period by the Elder Board: Simon Goodall and Eric Moore.

In 1993, at age 14, Simon gave his life to Christ through the Student Impact ministry shortly after moving from the UK to the South Barrington area. He moved away from Chicago upon graduation from Northwestern, ending up in Boston where he met his wife Stephanie. God however called them back to the Chicago area and Willow where he’s used his gifts of leadership, administration, and giving to serve in a number of ministries including small groups, sections, Promiseland, and C.A.R.S. Simon is the Chief Revenue Officer at Groupon. He and Stephanie currently live in Inverness with their four children and they all attend the South Barrington campus.
Eric is a military veteran and a Northwestern University graduate, working for McDonald’s in digital marketing. He has been married to Tracey for 25 years, and is a proud father to two children. Eric loves the great outdoors, and likes to carve out plenty of quiet time to read and reflect. He and his wife attend the Huntley campus.

If you are aware of anything that would disqualify Simon or Eric from serving on the Willow Creek Elder Board, or you have any concerns about either candidate doing so, please speak to them directly as soon as you are able. If this conversation does not allay your concerns, please submit your concern to kfabian@willowcreek.org by May 17, 2021.
