Who is Jesus?

Willow Creek | March 24, 2021

With the Easter season in full swing, you might be asking yourself, “Who is Jesus?” You might know a thing or two, maybe about Him being born on Christmas and that He died on a cross, or maybe you don’t know anything–and that’s okay, too! Here’s a very brief answer to the question Who is Jesus?: Jesus is the Son of God (Matthew 3:17). He came to earth born as a baby (which we celebrate on Christmas–Luke 2:1-20), then grew up to die on the cross for all of our sins (Good Friday), and would ultimately resurrect from the dead on Easter.

What is Good Friday, and why is it “good?”

That’s a grand overview of the question Who is Jesus? To go a little deeper, Jesus is the Savior to humanity. As human beings, we do wrong and make mistakes and sin. We can’t help it; it’s our nature. The Bible tells us there is a price to pay for our wrongs (Romans 6:23). However, instead of paying the debt of our sins with our own lives, Jesus (God’s Son) loves us so much, He came to Earth and died for us on the cross as our substitute. To have eternal life, all we have to do is believe in Jesus, in what He did for us, and ask Him to forgive us of our sins (John 3:16).

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done: Jesus loves you! He loves you so much He came down from Heaven and died in your place; and what’s just as incredible is that Jesus wants to have a relationship with you.
