Weekends at Willow

Welcome to Willow! We’re so excited to gather on Sundays—in person and online—for services, kids, and student programs. As always, you can check out a service on Willow Online, or plan a Sunday visit at one of our Chicagoland locations.

What Christians Get Wrong About Christianity

Current SeriesWhat Christians Get Wrong About Christianity

Most churches today have a desire to look like the church in Acts—even Willow was founded with an Acts 2:42 vision. But why? The early church was marked by generosity, love, and relationships that caused the world to look on with curiosity. Is the same true of us today? Let’s explore what Christians get wrong about Christianity and discover how we can regain our interdependence to bring change to our families, cities, and world.

I THINK IT'S ABOUT ME

Have you ever felt like church was about you? Maybe not directly, but have you ever complained that the music wasn’t to your taste, the teaching style didn’t resonate with you, or people weren’t to your liking? We often think the church is about us, but it’s intended to be marked by authentic community, driven by an others-oriented love and commitment mindset. Discover how that type of community could change everything for you.

WE THINK IT'S JUST ABOUT THE RULES

If you grew up in a Christian home, you likely had some “rules” you needed to follow. If you knew Christians growing up, you probably knew there were things that Christians don’t do (drink, dance, swear, live promiscuously etc.). Good intentions to follow God’s Word can quickly lead to rules to adhere to in order to be a good Christian. But God wants more for our lives—He saves us so we can be changed and change the world with Him, not follow rules. Learn how to faithfully follow God in a way that transforms your life, not your behavior.

WE THINK IT'S SOLELY ABOUT GETTING INTO HEAVEN

Over the years, the gospel message has been reduced to a salvation message: accept Jesus, then you’ll get to Heaven when you die. But when Jesus taught us to pray, He said we should ask for God’s kingdom to come and will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. What would it look like to have a bigger picture of faith that doesn’t just impact “some day,” but every day?

WE THINK IT'S ABOUT OUR AGENDA

Most American school children are taught the pledge of allegiance as a way to demonstrate loyalty to our country. In Ephesians 2, Paul calls the church to follow a greater Kingdom and King, beyond country, political, or familial ties. Learn what it looks like to allow your faith to frame everything else in your world.

WE THINK ATTENDING CHURCH IS ENOUGH

Does going to church make you a Christian? Not anymore than going to a football practice field makes you a professional player. God’s plan and purposes for your life extend beyond church attendance and Bible reading plans—it’s healing, redemption, and hope that transforms your life and those around you. Step into the full life Jesus intended for you and discover how He will use you to be a light in the world.
