Volunteer for the
Winter Wonderland Walk

If there was ever a year to experience the joy of Christmas, this is it! Starting the weekend after Thanksgiving, we will be hosting a 24-day Winter Wonderland Walking light exhibit. We don't want to just offer a fantastic experience, we want to create a warm, welcoming, and cheerful environment for our neighbors.

Doing this requires people—like you (about 60 each day)! If you like to smile, wave, pass out free stuff, check people in, and provide direction, we've got a spot for you. All of our serves are outside and will allow you to interact with guests in a socially-distant environment.

Volunteer Update

All volunteers at the Winter Wonderland Walk will need to have completed the volunteer screening process in order to serve. Please take into account that it takes up to 3 days (sometimes longer) to complete this process in order to be approved to serve when you select your serving time(s).

Because we are near the end of our Winter Wonderland Walk, we have closed all volunteer sign-ups.

If you know that your status is approved to serve and want to sign up for a last-minute serve (including the day of an event), you can email [email protected] to let us know.

Come serve along the Winter Wonderland Walk pathway welcoming people, checking their tickets, guiding them and handing out takeaway items. Bundle up in your winter gear for this outdoor serve!

FAQs for serving

  • Where should I park?

Please park in the C Lot.

  • Where do I go when I arrive to serve?

Please go to the C Entrance to check-in for your serve. The doors will be locked, but a staff person will be just inside the doors and allow you into the building. You will be allowed into the building to check-in and get your volunteer instructions. A mask will be required at all times, both inside and outside.

  • Will I be serving outside?

Yes, all of our serving roles are outside so please dress accordingly for the weather. We highly encourage dressing in layers wearing hats, gloves, scarves and a warm coat.

  • What if I need to cancel my serve?

Please email [email protected] if you need to cancel your serving time.

  • Can my student serve with me?

Yes, your student can serve with you. High school students should register using the registration links above. Junior High students can serve with a parent. Please email us at [email protected] if you’d like to add your junior high student to the serving list with you.

  • Do I need to wear a mask?

Yes, you will need to wear a mask at all times, both inside the building and outside during the serve.

  • What Covid precautions will be in place?

We are asking all volunteers, staff and participants to wear masks during the entire experience. Additionally, we are asking that if you or anyone in your household is displaying COVID-19 symptoms that you stay home and not attend as either a volunteer or participant. We are also limiting group sizes and asking people to stay socially distant (more than 6 feet) away from other groups.

  • Do I need any training to serve?

You do not need any training ahead of time. Any instructions on your serve will be given to you at the start time. We do need all volunteers to have completed our protection process that includes a short application form. If you haven’t served with us before, we will contact you with those details.

  • Can I serve more than once?

Yes, of course! You are welcome to serve as many times as you’d like. Each night, we have broken the time up into 2 serving shifts. If you’d like to serve for the entire evening, just sign up for both shifts on that day.

  • Is there a weather cancellation plan?

In the event of inclement weather that would prohibit us from operating the outdoor light experience, we will contact you via email to let you know that it has been cancelled by 4 pm on the day of your serve. The outdoor light experience will continue to operate in snow, unless the conditions become dangerous.

  • Will any food be provided to volunteers?

We will have a “Volunteer Central” located inside the C Entrance with some snacks and drinks during your serve. Due to Covid protocols, the building is not open to the public, but we will be allowing volunteers into the C building before, during and after their serve to use bathrooms and to get something to drink. All food items will be individually packaged. We will not be serving meals like we have in the past, so please plan accordingly.

  • Will there be a place for me to store my belongings while I serve?

We do not have a secure place to store belongings during your serve as you will be outside. Please leave any valuables that you have with you in your car and lock it during your serve.

  • What kinds of things will I be doing during the serve?

Volunteers will help make this a warm, welcoming and safe experience for guests each night. Practically, you will be helping direct people along the pathway, hand out some small items and welcome/greet people to help make this a meaningful experience.
