1. Participation

Q: Who can participate in the 5K?
A: The Willow Creek 5K is open to all runners, walkers, and those with strollers, wheelchairs, or other special needs. Those who are not running will begin the race after the runners have started.

Q: Can my child participate?
A: Youth ages 3–17 may register for the 5K race and receive their own shirt and bib with timing chip. There is also a Kids Fun Run for children ages 3-9. Children ages 2 and under are welcome to join their parents for the 5K race. Childcare is not provided.

2. Registration

Q: How do I register?
A: Registration will be available February 1, 2018. Limited walk-up registration for South Barrington race participants will be available on Friday, April 27, 4:30-6:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 28, 7-8:15 a.m. We will accept cash, check, or charge for walk-up registration.

Note: Limited walk-up registration is available in the Activity Center of Willow Creek Community Church (near Entrance F) at the following times:
•  4:30–6:30 p.m., Friday, April 27
• 7–8:15 a.m., Saturday, April 28

Q: Can I transfer my registration to someone else if I can’t make it to the race?
A: Unfortunately, since signing a personal waiver is part of your registration process, you are not able to transfer your registration.

Q: Can I pick up my family or friend’s packet?
A: Yes, but you’ll need to sign for it.

Q: Can I get a refund for my registration?
A: Partial refunds (50%) will be issued until March 31. After that date, no refunds are available.


3. Volunteering

Q: Can I volunteer to help with the race?

4. Donations

Q: How are the race proceeds being used?
A: The proceeds from this year’s Willow Creek 5K will be used to build and equip classrooms for kids in the Dominican Republic, Cambodia, and Zambia. 

Q: Can I make a donation to the race even if I’m not running or walking?
A: Yes! Here are three ways you can donate:
    • Bring your donation (cash or check) to the Information Booth on race day, April 28. (The Information Booth is clearly marked on the map in your race-day packet.)
    • Mail your donation via check, made out to Willow Creek Community Church (attn: COH Donation). Simply write “Willow Creek 5K” or “COH 5K” in the memo line of your check. Willow’s mailing address: 67 E. Algonquin Road, South Barrington, IL 60010
   • Place your donation in the offering at any Willow Creek church service. Write “Willow Creek 5K” or “COH 5K” in the memo line of your check. Weekend services are held on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 9 & 11:15 a.m. Weekend services on April 14/15, April 21/22, and April 28/29 are specifically focused on Celebration of Hope 2018.


5. Race Day Details

Q: Is there a course map available?
A: Yes. The course map will be posted at willowcreek.org/5k the week before the race. The entire course is located on the Willow Creek Community Church South Barrington campus, using paved roads and parking lots.

Q: Can my child ride his/her bike or scooter during the race?
A: For safety reasons, no bikes, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, longboards, hover boards, etc. are permitted in the race.

Q: Can I bring my dog if he is on a leash?
A: For safety reasons, no dogs are allowed on the racecourse, with the exception of service dogs.

Q: Can I buy a Willow Creek 5K t-shirt?
A: Any remaining t-shirts will be available for $10 at the registration table on race day.

Q: Is there a race hashtag?
A: Yes, glad you asked! Please use #Willow5K for posting on social media.

Q: Will race photos be available?
A: We will not provide professional race photos. However, please encourage friends and family to take pictures and post them on social media using #Willow5K.

Q: Is food available at the race?
A: Yes. Post-race food is provided for participants. In addition, Chick-fil-A will be offering a limited supply of breakfast food for purchase after the race.

Q: Where are the bathrooms?
A: Portable restrooms are located near the start/finish line. Full restroom facilities are available just inside the church at Entrances E and F.

Q: Is there a lost and found?
A: Yes. All found items will be held at the Information Booth, located in the Activity Center.

Q: Where can I receive medical attention?
A: Paramedics and an ambulance will be stationed in the main parking lot throughout the morning. A medical aid station will be located near Entrance F.

Q: When and where is the awards ceremony?
A: The awards ceremony will be held immediately following the race. The location is TBD. 


6. Inclement Weather Plan

Q: What if the weather is bad on race day?
A: Participants’ safety is most important. The race will be delayed or cancelled if any of the following weather conditions exist or persist: tornado watch or warning, thunder/electrical storm, heavy rain, or other major weather condition. If threatening weather conditions force cancellation of the event, no refunds can be provided since funds were already spent in preparation for race day. 


7. Race Certification & Results 

Q: When and where will the race results be posted?
A: Unofficial results will be posted near the stage as racers complete the course. Please check to see that your information here is correct. Official results will be posted near the awards ceremony table shortly after the race and at willowcreek.org/5k after the event.
