Welcome Kits

Refugee Welcome Kit

The crises in Afghanistan and other countries throughout the world are causing thousands of families to flee their homeland in search of safety in another country. The United Nations (UN) estimates there are 82 million refugees worldwide.

Our local partners, World Relief and Exodus World Service, are expecting an influx of Afghan refugees to start arriving in Chicagoland in the next month. We are partnering with both organizations to provide a warm welcome to these families with a welcome kit: a collection of household supplies for their home.

Many refugees are arriving here with only a few personal possessions, and the items on the welcome kit list will help turn their empty apartment into a home.

We have received an incredible response from our congregation for Welcome Kits! At this point we have reached our capacity for the amount of refugee kits that our local partners are requesting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I donate a partial kit or select items?

In order to best work with our partner organizations and deliver the welcome kits swiftly, we’re only accepting completed welcome kits. Thank you for understanding.

How much does one welcome kit cost?

We estimate that a welcome kit cost is between $600-$700.

Where and when do I drop off my completed kit?

Please email us at [email protected] once you have completed your welcome kit. You will have two delivery options to pick from:

  1. Drop the Welcome Kit at Willow Creek Care Center during designated timeframes in the email.
  2. Deliver it directly to the refugee family. A staff member from the organization will connect your group with a family and join you for the actual delivery. You may have to temporarily hold onto the Welcome Kit until we can connect you with a family.
