Unleashing the power of a story

Unleashing the power of a story

Summer at Willow Creek continues this weekend, August 4/5, with a message from author Annie Downs and an interview with radio host Ira Glass focusing on the power of story.

Annie is a best-selling author and nationally known speaker who uses her writing to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. She weaves together personal stories, humor, and Scripture to invite people to experience fulfilled lives with a God who made them on purpose and loves them deeply. Her message will inspire you to see God in the midst of the everyday ebbs and flows of life.

Ira is an award-winning radio show host and producer of This American Life. His radio career started at age 19, and he has worked on nearly every NPR show from the ground floor up.

In 1995, Ira launched This American Life to give listeners touching, humorous, and often unexpected vignettes of life in America. The show now reaches more than 2.2 million listeners each week. It has released more than 650 episodes, each one exhibiting the beauty and struggle we all face as humans.

Bring family and friends—and all the radio show aficionados in your life—for a service that will make you laugh, challenge you to think, and help you see the stories all around you.

Sandblast: A camp for change

More than 1,500 high school students and their adult leaders gathered for Sandblast last weekend and invited God to move in their lives and communities. Teachers Steve Carter, Nick Scheske, Rachel Lang, and Pat Brennan showed students that change is possible in their lives and that Jesus desires to make all things new. Many students said yes to following Christ for the first time, while others chose to follow God through their challenges—decisions that changed the trajectories of their lives forever.

"Seeing students not only having fun together but also leaning into God’s invitations to them gives me great hope and excitement for the days ahead," says Director of Student Ministries Scott Rubin. "God is stirring in our students. Might He also be stirring you to serve students this school year? If so, contact us and explore the possibility of being used by God to impact young lives."

Please pray that each Impact student not only knows the love of God but lives each day believing in the power of His love. View more photos and the highlight video from Sandblast on the Student Impact Parents Facebook page.
