Is peace possible?
The Israeli/Palestinian conflict remains a regular story in the news, and you may have found yourself asking: "What is going on there? Why is this conflict so hard to solve? Can peace really be made with them?”
You may have opinions based on what you've heard, the news you've seen, and even the Bible stories you've read or been taught. Maybe you came by the Israel/Palestine exhibit at Willow during Celebration of Hope and heard some stories from this conflict, saw how listening to the other side is an integral part of peacemaking, and now you are wondering what you can do. One thing is clear: this is a very complex conflict—and if you think it is easy then you most of all should keep reading!
For the past few years, Willow Creek has partnered with Telos, an educational non-profit at the forefront of peacemaking in the Middle East, to help us better understand the difficult and intricate history of the Holy Land, how we as Americans and Christians are already implicated in the conflict that rages there, and how we can be better involved as peacemakers.
But more than just explaining the nuances of a modern geopolitical conflict, Telos has given us the tools to better think about what it means to include peacemaking as a necessary part of following Christ. For when Jesus said "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God," we believe He was talking to us!
During our partnership with Telos, Willow leadership at all levels have learned from the unique wisdom they bring, whether on the ground on one of their Holy Land pilgrimages, at one of their outstanding Leadership Conferences, or at special seminars here in Chicagoland.
Now, on Saturday, June 3 , we are delighted to open the doors for the Willow family to learn more from Telos, Telos leaders, including co-founder Todd Deatherage, will host highly engaging seminars and workshops that will explore the history of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the current peacemaking movement, and how we can all be peacemakers in our own backyards. This transformational event will change how you read the Bible, how you watch the news, and even how you view every human being.
