Mitch Albom, best-selling author and one of America's most renowned sports columnists, has captured thousands of game-changing moments in his career, some of which he will share at Willow Creek on November 4/5. Albom got his start in sports journalism and remained a consistent voice for more than 30 years before receiving the coveted Red Smith Award and being inducted into the Sports Writers and Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Albom harnessed his gift of words and began writing memoirs and fiction novels, selling more than 40 million copies, including Tuesdays With Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto.
"As a journalist and author, Mitch Albom has seen and met hundreds of athletes and influential people," says Teaching Pastor Steve Carter. "But the thing that inspires me most is the way he shifted his life to be a game changer. He has devoted himself to helping others—whether in Detroit, where he lives today, or in the wake of natural disasters in Haiti and the Philippines."
In the last 10 years, Albom has shifted his primary focus to philanthropic work, raising millions for charities—even running seven of his own to help families and disadvantaged children across the world.
