Gifts for Inmates

Dear Enews Friends,

This weekend is one of my favorite times of the year: Prison Pack Weekend. Each December we set aside time in a service to pack gifts for every inmate in Illinois. The gifts include treats, books, a Christmas card, a Bible study, and a journal. What may seem like a simple act has the power to transform lives and impact generations. The stories that come after the gifts are delivered are filled with hope and gratitude. What a gift to give.

We’ll also continue Awestruck with a message on the Holy Spirit’s encounter with Zechariah from Luke 1:67–79 and an interview with Anthony Ray Hinton. Anthony spent 30 years on death row for a crime he didn’t commit and was proven innocent with the help of criminal justice activist and lawyer Bryan Stevenson. He documented his journey inThe Sun Does Shine, which was featured on Oprah’s 2018 Book Club. I can’t wait to worship, learn, and serve together this weekend.
