Dear Willow Family:
Willow Creek Community Church has concluded the annual audit of its consolidated financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2018. This involved an independent auditor’s review of our financial statements, account statements, and internal controls. We are pleased to share that the recent audit received an unqualified opinion, meaning the auditors found no concerns or misstatements in our financial reporting or operations for 2018. We would like to thank our accounting staff for their diligence and dedication over this past year. We are grateful for the God-honoring work they have done on behalf of our congregation, Willow staff, and the Elder Board.
The audit committee of the Elder Board has the mandate to focus on the qualitative aspects of financial reporting; organization process; risk analysis and mitigation; and compliance with significant and applicable tax, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements. Good processes, procedures, and controls in our church provide a critical foundation for financial management. And as a board, we understand that stewardship extends beyond an audit and incorporates wise decision-making regarding the resources God has provided through tithes and offerings. As we prepare for the future, we ask God to give us wisdom in discerning areas to sustain, reinforce, alter, or develop for continued growth.
The apostle Paul reminds us that “it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy” (1 Corinthians 4:2 NASB). We ask for prayers that we would continue to faithfully steward the resources God has entrusted to our care.
Anyone may request a copy of Willow Creek’s most recently audited financial statements. Email [email protected] to request a copy or to ask general questions about the report.
In the last Elder update, we announced the formation of a senior pastor search committee. The search committee is working in partnership with Vanderbloemen, a firm that specializes in assisting churches with pastoral searches. We would love to have the input of the congregation in this process. If you have any recommendations, please email the names of potential candidates to the firm at [email protected]. If you have insights, prayers, or encouragement that you’d like to communicate directly with the search committee, you can do so by emailing [email protected]. Please pray for the search committee, for Vanderbloemen as they assist us, and for the person God is raising up to be our next senior pastor.
In continuing our commitment to send out Elder teams to each campus, a team of Elders will be available at Willow Crystal Lake and Willow Wheaton after each service this Sunday, June 9.
In His service,
The Willow Creek Elder Board
