5 Ways to Spend the Last Days of Summer

Summer is halfway over, and we’re trying to get the most out of every day that’s left.

We rounded up five great ways to spend your last summer days on the North Shore.


Willow North Shore Block Party  |   Wednesday, July 18, 6 – 8:30 pm
Stop by Willow North Shore on Wednesday evening for tons of free food, games, and more! We’re serving dinner off the grill and have games and inflatables for the whole family – from a bounce house to an obstacle course with a little competition. Everyone is invited, so bring your family and friends and we’ll see you there! (Free Admission)
Sounds of Summer, Wilmette Park District  |  Concerts through August 6
Head east to Wilmette for free outdoor entertainment! Held at the Wallace Bowl and Mallinckrodt Park Gazebo, Sounds of Summer still has more than 10 free concerts this summer. From kids’ tunes to jazz and local teen bands, there’s a show to fit everyone’s taste. Check out a full list of upcoming concerts HERE. (Free Admission)
Family Drop-In at the Botanic Garden  |  Daily until August 26, 10 am – 4 pm 
Drive up to Glencoe to spend a day at the Chicago Botanic Garden for Family Drop-In Activities! Learn how plants grow, pollinate flowers, build a life-size bird nest, or explore underwater life. Activities vary from week to week, but with over 300 acres of landscaped gardens and millions of plants, there is a ton to explore! (Free Admission, $25 Parking)
Summer Pool Fiesta at Roosevelt Pool  |  Tuesday, August 7, 4 – 7 pm
Part of the Glenview Park District, Roosevelt Pool is hosting a fiesta themed family pool party! Show up for special themed snacks, games for all ages, and music provided by a live DJ. Don’t miss the dance party in the water and free Zumba class at 5:45 pm!  ($9 for Glenview Residents, $14 for Non-Residents)
Evanston Art & Big Fork Festival  |  August 17-19
Celebrate local art and great food in Evanston as the summer winds down. The Art & Big Fork Festival spans three days and features original, high-end artwork alongside unique pieces, like handmade jewelry and furniture. Stop by to see live music on Friday evening and grab a bite to eat! (Free Admission)
