Poured Out for You
Read Luke 22:14-20
When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
- What would it have been like to recline at a table with Jesus and hear Him speak the words recorded in this passage?
- What would your reaction have been to hearing Jesus say His body is “given for you” and His blood is “poured out for you”?
- What do you feel as you read these words today, knowing, as you do, about Jesus’ death by crucifixion?
Father, I read these words and place myself at the table with Jesus, and my heart breaks and soars at the same time. Thank You for the reminder that in Jesus, You were here with us, sitting at a table, eating bread, drinking wine. Thank You for the reminder that Jesus Christ gave His body and blood so that I could come to know You, Your love, and Your grace in and through Him. Reset my heart and mind on this truth. Amen.
