All Things New
Read Revelation 21:4–5 (ESV)
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
- What does it mean to you that Scripture says God will “wipe away every tear from their eyes,” as opposed to just saying there will be nothing left that would cause us to cry?
- What pain or suffering have you experienced that you have prayed your children, family, or friends would never have to experience?
- Describe in a sentence “the old order of things” that John describes will pass away.
Father, I can hardly stand the intimacy of Your hand wiping away tears falling down my face! What must this feel like? Bring this comfort to me and those I know who are suffering now and whose tears are fast and constant. There are so many tears and there is so much sadness. Show Yourself to the people I know who are suffering. And until the day You wipe their tears, strengthen me and give me the courage to act on Your behalf, sitting with them and offering comfort in the midst of pain. Thank You for Your promise that this old order of suffering, sin, and death will pass away forever. Reset my heart and mind on this truth. Amen.
