Can Any One of You by Worrying...?
Read Matthew 6:25–27
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
What good does worrying do for us? How often does it solve the problem we’re facing or the circumstances in which we find ourselves? And yet, we do it all the same. Jesus reminds us by His question that worrying isn’t productive or life-giving. If anything, it steals moments and prevents us from being present to what’s actually happening around us. How can we begin to hand over these worries to God and experience more peace?
- Imagine Jesus asking you the question: “Can you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” How would you answer this question (knowing what He’s really asking is, “Why do you spend time worrying?”)?
- What are you most worried about this week? How might you release that worry to God?
- What do you sense Jesus inviting you to consider or believe about Him as you reflect on your answer to His question, “Can you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
