God's Love: Day 3

The Extravagant Dimensions of Christ's Love

 Read Ephesians 3:14–21 (MSG)
My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!
Have you ever thought of the “extravagant dimensions” of Christ’s love? His love is eternally wide, long, deep, and high. In other words, there are no limits on His love. It just keeps going wherever you look, wherever you go. We are inside of His love; there’s no getting out of it! So, why not rest and breathe and work and love inside of His love? There is no better place. And when we do this, God works within us, deeply and gently.
You are inside God’s extravagant love.

  • What would it mean for the way you pray, the people you love, or the words you use to talk to yourself if the love of Christ really is without limit?
  • What worries or fears do you sense God inviting you to release as you allow yourself to believe and embrace that His love surrounds you on every side?
  • Where do you sense God working within you? If you don’t have a sense of His work in you, ask Him to show you and ask a friend who knows you well where they think God might be working within you.

God, how often I forget I am inside Your love wherever I find myself at any given moment of any given day. You will not leave me or turn away; abandon or disappoint. You are what’s constant and lasting. When I am tempted to cling to the imperfect to meet my needs or desires, work within me to pull me back to center, back to what’s true. Your love is above, below, to the left and the right, ahead and behind. May I live into this reality.
