Celebration of Hope: Day 15

Our Hope Is in the Lord

Read Psalm 146

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, my soul.
I will praise the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
he remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

Reflect

God has invited every one of us to partner with Him in doing good, serving those in need, and being present with the hurting and lonely in our world. Even—or maybe especially—when we ourselves are the ones in need, hurting, or lonely! After all, God is watching over us and longing to pour out blessing and goodness on us. Where we are enslaved, God wants to and does set us free. Where we are blind, God wants to and does give us sight. Where we are oppressed, God wants to and does liberate us. Where we are stuck and reaching out for help, God wants to and does extend His hand to save us. May we be people who join with Him in this work of blessing and goodness!

  • Where is God inviting you to join in the work He is doing to bring about freedom, sight, liberation, rescue, and goodness? What is one tangible way you can join in that work?

  • How has God used Celebration of Hope—including the speakers, worship, ways to engage, and times of prayer and reflection—to move your heart toward compassion and bringing hope to our hurting world?

  • As you get dressed today, say a prayer for those in the world who have a need that they are unable to meet. To make your prayer more specific, pick a country or location where poverty is prevalent and pray specifically for the children in that place.

Respond

Father, thank You for the truth that You are good and that You are my rescuer and freedom-bringer. May my life be an offering to You, a showcase of what You’re capable of and willing to do so that others will come to You for true life and freedom. And help me not to grow weary in doing good, but to seek energy from You in order to extend tangible blessing and encouragement to those who are in need and hurting. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
