He Fills the HungryRead Psalm 107:1–9
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.
Some wandered in desert wastelands,
finding no way to a city where they could settle.
They were hungry and thirsty,
and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way
to a city where they could settle.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
What if we woke up each morning with this phrase on our lips: “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever”? How might our days be different? What if, as we went through our day, we catalogued all the good God had done and the depth of His love for us? What if we were convinced that God would satisfy our every thirst and meet our hunger with good things? How might that impact what we focus on, worry about, or rejoice in? Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever!
- Take one minute and write down all the ways in which God has been good to you. Where has He provided? Where has He made His presence known? Where have you seen His goodness?
- In what area of your life do you need to call out to God for help because you are in trouble or headed for trouble? What keeps you from calling out? What do you want to ask God for?
- Each time you eat a meal or a snack today, say a prayer for those in the world who don’t have enough to eat. To make your prayer more specific, pick a country or location where people are suffering with hunger and pray specifically for the children in that place.
Father, thank You for Your unending love and goodness. Why do I forget? Remind me! Remind me in the midst of difficulty, suffering, or doubt that You are good, only, always and forever. When I wake up in the morning, let my thoughts not be worries about my day, but gratitude for Your goodness. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
