Group Life Youth Pastor - High School Ministry


A Group Life Youth Pastor in Student Impact is the primary Youth Pastor for hundreds of high school students. A person in this position will use their leadership, shepherding and enthusiasm to recruit, lead and develop fantastic coaches who oversee a group of small group leaders, and will use their skills and gifts to help draw every student towards Jesus. This position not only oversees volunteer coaches but also volunteer small group leaders and operational volunteers. The gift and ability to teach is welcome as the ministry maintains a small pool of regular teachers. This Youth Pastor role is crucial for the success of the high school ministry of Willow Creek.


  • Recruit, lead, shepherd, develop and support to 7-10 House Group Leaders, as well as recruit and provide support to the associated 5-7 Food Coordinators and Home Hosts
  • Partner with the other Group Life Youth Pastors to recruit, place, onboard, shepherd, train and retain each house group’s small group leaders
  • Participate in the broader Impact staff team by owning areas within regular and special events (including but not limited to camps, programs, church-wide initiatives, etc)
  • Provide pastoral support for students and their families as needed, especially in crisis situations. Provide referrals to professional counselors as needed
  • Assist with regular small group leader trainings, and Impact program elements
  • Build relationships with students through general ministry involvement as well as situationally
  • Provide general administration for communication, expense management, attendance, feedback processes, child-protection policies and special events
  • Other responsibilities and opportunities, such as teaching may be available for a person in this position, based on the unique gifts and skills they possess


  • Prior experience recruiting and training adult volunteers
  • Prior experience working with high school students
  • Skilled in shepherding youth and developing leaders
  • Strong crisis management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • College Degree
  • Spiritual gifts of leadership, teaching, discernment, shepherding, and/or evangelism
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, climb ladders, and be on your feet for long stretches of time
