With the current COVID surge, our team has been working diligently and prayerfully as we navigate what implications that has on our High School Ministry Retreat scheduled for February 11. Our heart is to make the best decisions for our students, staff, and families as we take all things into consideration. Unfortunately, we are writing to let you know that we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our HSM Winter Retreat for this year. We know this is disappointing news—we’re sad too.
As you can imagine, this decision was extremely challenging for our team, but we do believe that it’s the best decision as we seek to keep our students and leaders healthy and safe. From the beginning, we tried as hard as we could to make this event happen by taking extra precautions (wearing masks throughout the weekend with proof of vaccination or negative test required to attend), but with the rampant spread of Omicron, we were not confident that those precautions would be enough. As sad as we are to cancel camp this year, it’s a decision that we feel cares for our community best. We explored postponing camp to a later time this spring, but due to limited venue availability, we couldn’t find an option that made it possible for us to move forward.
Even though camp is canceled, ministry, connection, and community aren’t. Our staff team is already exploring ways to create some fun, momentum building ministry opportunities for high schoolers this spring. Keep on the lookout! We also can’t wait for Sandblast 2022 from July 22–25. It’ll be a camp to remember—we don’t want you to miss it!
We know that these decisions impact your schedules and families, and after multiple years of plans being canceled and changed, we know the toll of disappointment is weighing on your students. As always, our pastors and small group leaders are here to support in any way.
We are processing full refunds for all registrants this week, so thank you for your patience as we work hard to get all those out. Thank you for understanding how difficult these situations can be. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your campus high school pastor. You are also welcome to contact me, Pat Brennan (firstname.lastname@example.org), or Jenna Nystrom (Jenna.email@example.com).
