Unleashed to Grow
The moment when we say, Jesus I need you and I need you to change me, a transaction takes place in heaven that puts us on a spiritual journey of transformation that lasts for the rest of our lives.
Jesus said All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me, therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28: 18-20)
We are saved by the amazing grace God gives. Just as amazing is the moment when we are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. As amazing as these moments are, it’s not the end of the road because the journey is just beginning.
When Jesus says to teach them to obey everything He has commanded, it is not for educational purposes, but for transformational purposes so we can become more like Christ.
What do you need to grow? To transform?
Over the last 18 months, the leadership of Willow Creek has asked God what He wants our church to look like in four years. Here is what we believe God is leading us to explore: As a church we want torethink the coaching we give Christ followers as they pursue fully surrendered lives. .
Christ followers need a customized experience for next steps in their spiritual journey
In every stage of the spiritual journey, we need a customized experience for the next steps of our journey. We need an approach that will help identify those next steps and the resources needed along the way. This kind of tool will take time and work to develop and Willow hopes to launch a tool like this in 2008. What will we do between now and then?
“One of the challenges for teaching pastors is how to help people take next steps in their spiritual journeys when they are at different levels of spiritual maturity,” said Lead Pastor Gene Appel. |
