Road Trip

Student Impact, Willow Creek’s high school ministry and the youth ministry at Salem Baptist Church located in the south suburbs of Chicago, have taken seriously the challenge to bridge the racial divide.  And they are doing it by building relationships with each other.

Since 2006, the two churches have dedicated time and energy toward getting to know and understand each other through serving and hanging out.  In 2007, the worship teams of both high school ministries went into a studio to record a few songs—including “Came to My Rescue,” a powerful worship song released in November, 2007. Download the song

Twice a year, students gather for a road trip to visit the other church. On March 16, approximately 500 high school kids from Willow will make a road trip to Salem in Roseland, Illinois. Salem Baptist will replace their regular worship service with a service devoted to youth ministries. This special service will broadcast locally on WJYS-TV. (Check your local listings for time.)

“These students are committed to being a generation that demonstrates what it means to overcome racial prejudice,” said Darren Whitehead, director of Student Impact at Willow Creek. “And we’ll do it one relationship at a time.”

Students to visit Salem with Willow Creek need to return parental approval by Sunday, March 9. www.studentimpact.com
