English as a Second Language (ESL) groups are designed to help internationals learn the English language, American culture and Christianity, as well as get a taste of Christian community and develop relationships with Americans and other internationals.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) GROUPS

English is taught in a relaxed, informal group setting. Sessions meet at Willow Creek Community Church as well as off-campus, and each includes group discussion that is relevant to the students' needs and interests.

Conversation, Idioms, Culture and Scriptures
Sundays at 12:45-2:00 p.m. in the Atrium
Designed to help students improve their listening, conversation and comprehension skills and better understand the weekend's message. The learning includes scriptures, vocabularies, American idioms, culture and expressions along with grammar, usage or pronunciation according to the needs of the students. The main curriculum is based on the message given during the weekend's service. Other curricula or handouts maybe used if necessary.
Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Conversational English
Various locations and times
Improve students' speaking, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and listening skills in small groups with a native English teacher. Practice and attain a higher level of fluency and accuracy using natural, conversational language and real-world topics, along with fun and personalized speaking activities. This class requires taking a placement test.
Level: All levels

ESL Bible Study
Saturdays at 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Room 363 or 369
Designed for students who are interested in discovering about the Bible, Christianity and small group community. Students learn English through conversation with some language instruction. All groups (seeker, new believers, discipleship and combination groups) are open format.
Level: Intermediate to Advanced

ESL Cafe
Wednesdays, 8:30-9:30 p.m. in the Atrium
Practice English language skills in a casual and comfortable environment, discussing topics such as family, holidays, work and other subjects of interest to the group members. Improve conversation, vocabulary and listening skills along with cultural understanding and more.
Level: All levels

Please call or email the following people to learn more about getting connected in an English as a Second Language (ESL) group.

NOTE: Groups may be closed at times based on registration numbers, tutor's availability, or summer season. However, students are encouraged to register and indicate the sessions they are interested in. They will be notified as soon as the sessions that interest them are open.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors/teachers - We are in need of experienced tutors or teachers as well as bi-lingual Spanish/English tutors/teachers. We provide training for non-experienced tutors.
Language interpretation - Spanish-, Korean- and Chinese-language interpreters and greeters are needed Sundays at the 11:15 a.m. service.
