As leaders at Willow Creek, and as fully devoted followers of Christ, we are compelled to respond to God's benevolence with compassion and care. But are we doing enough?
Consider what "enough" is. It is "enough" to:
Pray with a stranger
Cook a meal for an ailing neighbor
Give up the meeting at work for a meeting with someone in pain
Hold a hand; offer a tissue
Caring for others doesn't require grand gestures. It also doesn't require you to throw away boundaries and become so attached to someone else's problems that you lose balance in your relationship. Because many of us just don't know how to achieve that balance, we escort people and their problems to the church or to spiritual leaders or to anyone we think knows more about caring than we do.
But God called you. In John 13:35, He says, "As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Join the Pastoral Care team this September 20, 2008, from 8 a.m. to noon, for a special opportunity to learn more about God's call to care and how you can become fully equipped to care without fear. We're all about taking the scare out of care so you really can reach out to those in need.
Consider it. God's call to care isn't so much to ask.
