Authentically pursued, spiritual practices have the capacity to bring us to
a place of spiritual health because they open us up to God.
God cares to meet us in our pain; but we rarely reach out for just God.
Practices are the means of reaching out. The means of opening the soul to meet with God. They invite us to be intentional about the care of our souls. They invite us to an authentic encounter with God.
Six core practices that are particularly helpful in restoring soul health are:
Spiritual friendship,
Prayer,
the Use of Scripture,
Solitude,
Self-Examination,
and Simplicity.
Woven together, these practices become our way of life…
